A group of scientists and doctors from different countries, after reviewing cross-disciplinary scientific research, has issued an open letter on simple measures to significantly reduce the probability (prospect) of virus transmission.
The most important suggestion is that a simple face mask can significantly cut down transmission level, particularly when asymptomatic carriers have proved to be an important source of transmission. Therefore, the policy lesson flowing from it is that governments should make use of face masks in public places mandatory.
The letter says that a face mask is the most effective way of reducing transmission, particularly when its usage is universal. Given that India needs to start rolling back the lockdown measures to revive its economy, the government should act on scientific evidence and strictly implement (instrument) a rule that makes it mandatory to wear face masks in public. It will allow society to simultaneously deal with health risks and economic challenges.
